Despite the cold and wet weather some of the guards braved the elements and rode their trusty steeds up to sunny Arbroath.

Our venue for our breakfast/brunch meet in the North was the legendary Pie Bob’s.

A few of the other guards came on four wheels and let’s just say their journey was “warmer”.

A great catch up over some great food and hot drinks made up for the elements and it was good to see some well kent faces again.

It’s important that even when the weather can hinder our plans for ride outs, that we still meet up. It event more important to visit the different areas that our chapter covers.

Friendship is not seasonal and we try to make sure we all get together all year round.

As usual when we meet a collection was taken amongst the guards and will go towards the charitable donations that we make to local projects.

As a Masonic Riding Association (MRA) camaraderie is an important core value and something that we believe in very strongly.

If you love being out on the road on your two wheeled stallion, then why not check out our website for more information.

All are welcome.

On a recent visit to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, Widows Sons Solomon's Guard Grand Chapter had the honour of presenting a cheque for £500 to Ward 1E, a gesture warmly received by the hospital and its staff.

Chapter Treasurer, Steve “Donkey” McKenzie, personally delivered the cheque to Ross Clift, who accepted it on behalf of the hospital, in recognition of the Chapters' ongoing support for local causes.

This generous donation was part of a broader effort by the WSSGGC to support communities across Scotland. It came from the impressive £2,500 raised during a charity motorbike run across the country held in late August 2024.

The ride brought together chapter members and supporters from far and wide, all dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children and families who rely on the specialised care offered at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children.

Ward 1E, known for its tireless dedication to providing exceptional paediatric care, relies on donations like these to fund resources, improve patient experiences, and bring a little extra joy to children and families during challenging times.

The Chapters' contribution will support initiatives that make the hospital environment more comfortable and comforting for young patients and their families.

The charity motorbike run, which saw participants traverse some of Scotland's most breathtaking landscapes, is one of several fundraising activities organised by the Widows Sons Solomon's Guard Grand Chapter each year. Known for blending their passion for motorbikes with a strong commitment to community service, the Widows Sons have become synonymous with charitable giving, particularly in support of children’s health initiatives and medical facilities.

Steve “Donkey” McKenzie expressed gratitude on behalf of the chapter, emphasising the importance of supporting local healthcare services.

"We’re proud to contribute to Ward 1E and the incredible work they do every day. The funds we raise on these rides reflect our commitment to helping those in need and making a positive impact, especially in children’s healthcare.”

As part of an international organisation of Freemasons who are motorcycle enthusiasts, the Widows Sons Solomon's Guard Grand Chapter has established a reputation for giving back.

Their blend of fellowship and philanthropy enables them to extend support to numerous causes across Scotland and beyond, all while fostering camaraderie among members and building bridges within their communities.

The Royal Hospital for Children expressed deep appreciation for the donation, noting that the generosity of organisations like the Widows Sons makes a lasting difference in their mission to provide compassionate and comprehensive care.

The Widows Sons Solomon’s Guard Grand Chapter (WSSGGC) recently held their first official meeting under the leadership of newly elected President Jim “Strawbs” Wilson. The gathering was a momentous occasion, as it set the tone for the group’s upcoming activities and reaffirmed the brotherhood’s commitment to riding, charity work, and camaraderie.

New Officer Bearers Sworn In

During the meeting, a number of newly elected office bearers were ceremoniously sworn into their positions. This included Secretary, Treasurer, Sergeant At Arms, Chaplain, Almoner, and the important roles of Road Captains and Outriders.

Road Captains and Outriders have a responsibility to ensure the safety and coordination of the group during ride outs. The Road Captains will guide the pack, while the Outriders manage the logistics, positioning, and overall protection, allowing the riders to enjoy each ride with peace of mind.

A New Road Name for Barry "Fletcher"

A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a new road name, a tradition in motorcycle brotherhoods. This time, it was Barry who was honoured with the name "Fletcher." The significance of road names in this community is profound, symbolising one's identity and contributions to the group. Barry, or “Fletcher” as he’s now known, was visibly chuffed to receive his name patch, which will be proudly displayed on his vest for all future rides.

Plans for 2025 and Beyond

Looking ahead, the Solomon’s Guard laid out their plans for the remainder of the year and began discussions for the 2025 calendar. The upcoming year promises to be an exciting one, with regular ride outs around Scotland and visits to other riding associations already being planned. These events will not only give members the chance to experience Scotland’s scenic beauty but will also strengthen ties with other motorcycling communities and build on the fellowship that defines the Widows Sons.

President Jim “Strawbs” Wilson emphasised the importance of these ride outs and cross-group visits as a means of fostering both charity work and brotherhood. The group is eager to hit the road, carrying on their mission of raising funds for good causes while doing what they love.

Welcoming All to the Brotherhood

Although primarily a Masonic Riding Association, Solomon’s Guard offers an Associate Membership which allows non-Masons and females to join their ranks. This inclusive approach ensures that anyone with a passion for riding and the values of the group, can be part of the journey as well as finding out more about Freemasonry.

For those interested in learning more about membership, visit our website at www.wssgmra.com or email Trog, our Secretary, at secretary@wssgmra.com for more information.

The Road Ahead

With new leadership, fresh officers, and a packed calendar of rides, WSSGGC is embarking on an exciting new chapter. Under the steady hand of President Strawbs, and with the dedication of their officers and members, the group is ready to continue its tradition of loyalty, community service, and the open road.

Here’s to the rides ahead and the memories waiting to be made!
