At the end of September, the Widows Sons Solomon's Guard hosted a remarkable event at the scenic Biel Estate in Dunbar, and it was an experience that will live long in the memory of everyone who attended. Over the course of two days, we celebrated brotherhood, friendship, and unity—values that lie at the heart of everything the Guards stand for. With a perfect balance of solemn ceremony and joyful fellowship, this Grand Chapter weekend was nothing short of exceptional.

A Unique Branding Ceremony

One of the highlights of the weekend was the branding ceremonies. The event kicked off on Friday evening with five brothers receiving their brand, followed by four more on Saturday. The branding team put in an incredible effort, creating a ceremony that was not only unique but deeply personal to each of the new brandees. It was clear that a lot of thought and care had gone into ensuring this was an unforgettable moment for all involved.

From the solemnity of the ceremony to the camaraderie shared by everyone present, the atmosphere was truly special. The bonds formed during these moments were made stronger by the shared experience, and it was a pleasure to witness the deep sense of belonging and pride each brother felt.

 Honouring New Members

In addition to the brandees, we were honoured to induct two honorary members into the Solomon's Guard. Bro. John Gray, RWM of Lodge Dunbar Castle No. 75, and Provincial Grand Master Stuart Robertson of the provincial Grand Lodge of East Lothian and Berwickshire, both became part of our brotherhood. Their contributions to the Craft and their support of the Solomon's Guard made this recognition a fitting tribute. It was a joy to welcome them into the fold and to see how much it meant to them to be a part of this weekend’s proceedings.

A Poignant "Changing of the Guard"

In what was one of the most poignant moments of the weekend, we witnessed a "changing of the guard." After two years of exemplary service, Gregor Miller stepped down as our president, passing the mantle and gavel to Jim Wilson, who was appointed as the new president of the Widows Sons Solomon's Guard Grand Chapter. This symbolic handover was a significant moment for the Guards, as Gregor's leadership has been instrumental in helping us reach the position we are in today.

On behalf of all the brothers, we extend our deepest thanks to Gregor for his dedication, commitment, and passion for the WSSGGC. Under his leadership, our group has grown stronger and more unified, and we are incredibly grateful for everything he has done. As Jim Wilson takes over, we are confident that the future of the Guards is in good hands, and we look forward to supporting him in the journey ahead.

In addition to the presidency, several other office bearer positions were vacated over the weekend, creating new opportunities for brothers to step forward and take up leadership roles. We encourage anyone interested to put their names forward and help continue the work that makes this group so special.

Brotherhood, Friendship, and Fun

The entire weekend was a celebration of everything we hold dear: brotherhood, friendship, and having fun. Beyond the ceremonial aspects, the event provided ample opportunity for everyone to relax and get to know one another better. Whether through shared meals or late-night conversations, the bonds of fellowship were reinforced, and new friendships were forged. It’s weekends like this that remind us of the importance of these connections, not just within the Guard but across the wider Masonic community.

Hospitality and Entertainment

No event is complete without good food and great entertainment, and the Solomon's Guard Grand Chapter weekend was no exception. Our catering was expertly handled by the ever-reliable Angela’s Meals, who kept us all well-fed with her fantastic range of dishes. Her food was delicious and provided the perfect fuel for a weekend filled with activity and brotherhood.

As the evenings rolled in, our very own DJ Catweazle took over the entertainment, filling the nights with music and laughter. His sets provided the perfect soundtrack for the weekend, giving everyone the chance to unwind and enjoy themselves after a day of ceremonial duties and fellowship.

Reflecting on a Special Weekend

The Widows Sons Solomon's Guard Grand Chapter weekend was a testament to what we stand for. It was a weekend filled with meaningful ceremonies, joyous celebrations, and a reaffirmation of the ties that bind us together. The event not only strengthened the relationships we already had but also brought new brothers into the fold, ensuring that the legacy of the Guards continues to grow.

We left Biel Estate on Sunday morning with full hearts, having spent a weekend in the best of company. Here’s to many more weekends like this—filled with brotherhood, friendship, and, of course, fun.
